Individual therapy starts off with a few sessions of assessment, where we will get to know each other, understand where you are and envision where you’d like to go. This is Phase One of therapy, where we take a thorough history of your life, define your goals, and discuss which treatment model works best for you. (link to blog addressing treatment models.)
Phase Two of therapy is what you think of when you picture, “going to therapy.” This is where we do the work of therapy: gain new insights and learn new skills, process negative experiences all while progressing toward your goals. The length of this stage varies based on your stated goals that we came up with in Phase One. This is where we spend the bulk of our time together.

Grief work in therapy is a special task. Of course, there is no “fixing” loss. If processing grief is your reason for entering therapy, it won’t feel quite as goal driven. Instead, we will process the impact of the relationship and of the loss in a variety of ways, ensuring you do not suppress the grief experience (although that is tempting to want to do). Loss can look a variety of ways: illness or death, miscarriage or infertility, job loss or retirement, break-up or divorce. It’s important to have a knowledgeable guide through the unpredictable terrain of loss.

How do we handle payment?
Payment is due at time of service. While you have the option of paying cash, most clients keep a credit card on file which is automatically charged each session. The fee for the counseling hour is $150. Sessions cancelled with more than 24 hours notice are cancelled with no fee. Sessions cancelled within 24 hours of our session time will be charged $150.
My goal as a therapist is to be the guide you need during your transformation journey, and help you transition to life without a guide as soon as possible.
